SEED exists to develop valuable entrepreneurial skills and nurture student entrepreneurship. Serving as a catalyst for growth, SEED is an opportunity to grow student’s skill set and career success, while studying towards their tertiary qualification(s). The job market is a fiercely competitive space.

The worst part is that nothing really prepares you for it. Through SEED, we change that by helping you develop the right skills to thrive in the world of work. You acquire these skills through workshops and networking opportunities, which may improve your chances of landing a job, or better yet, starting your own business.

Through our peer mentorship programme, we help you tap into your true potential and build your professional confidence. SEED workshops and trainings mainly operate virtually. From time to time, these activities are also held in person at both the George and Gqeberha campuses. The employability coaching workshops, networking events, and the entrepreneurship symposiums are open to everyone to attend and run throughout the year, whereas the peer mentorship programme runs from April to September each year for each cohort of student entrepreneurs selected annually via an application process.  

SEED’s mission is to develop student entrepreneurs and enhance student employability. Funded by the Department of Higher Education and Training through the University Capacity Development Grant, SEED was established in three key areas, namely:

•         Employability workshops

•         Networking activities

•         Peer mentorship

The peer mentorship programme is exclusively for registered Nelson Mandela University student entrepreneurs. Employability coaching workshops, networking events, and entrepreneurship symposiums are open to the general youth. The eligibility criteria is only valid for the annual peer mentorship programme, where student entrepreneurs must meet the following criteria to apply for the programme:

•         Be a registered student at Nelson Mandela University.

•         Must have a business currently running or operating in any industry or sector.

•         Must be available to attend all mentoring sessions from April – September annually.

•         Must have access to a smartphone or laptop and stable connectivity.
